Visiting prison

On Wednesday, Doug took my mum, Pat and I to Asheboro jail, for a Thanksgiving meal for the bible study group there. We met loads of great people, many of who were totally committed Christians. Many of the people I talked to said they became a Christian whilst in prison. The majority of the people were in prison because of drug offences.

One guy I talked to said he had a good, stable, and well paid job working in business, and he thought a few small drug deals could bring in more money, and he just got greedy. We also met a guy called Harrison who had a multi-million dollar estate, a thriving funeral business, and a slightly odd view of the world around him. He said he wanted my mum to find a music studio and a wife for him... So I gave him her number. After the thanksgiving meal, a guy called Theodor led us in singing some praise songs. He made an impression, because this Sunday, he was in Grays Chapel leading the call to worship! While we were there, we also managed to orgaise the next exchange - I hope David likes prison food...
My mum trying to negotiate with Harrison about finding
him a wife - she really didn't want to!

Great to catch up with what you've all been up to. What a fantastic range of experiences. I know someone whose son spent last year at uni in america, she tells me that he shipped some stuff from America and it was relatively cheap compared to paying luggage surcharges.......might be worth knowing!!!!
Thoughts and prayers continue to be with you Chris,Pat and Mandy and everyone at Grays chapel, especially as you say your goodbyes and travel home.
You've still a couple more weeks there Chris....see if you can find out how to rotate your photos so we don't all have to lean sideways to look at them!

Yes Chris really did give Harrison my address !! He says he will write to me and I must write back - I think I'd be too scared not to don't you?
Yesterday (Sunday) was again a great day. We went to both the services at Church in the morning with Sunday School in the middle. Chris played with the worship band - keyboard, guitar and drums I think. Doug asked Pat and me to assist with communion which was an honour and a priviledge and a bit scary in a church with so many people. Chris also did a reading and Dougs dad Bill said the blessing at the end of the service. So Doug really involved all of us who were visitors and made it really special.
After Church, we had a wonderful lunch at the parsonage with Doug, Mary, the girls and Dougs parents before we said goodbye to them as they had been visiting for Thanksgiving. Lovely, lovely people. Couldn't get enough of them.
Anyway we're all packed up and ready to leave in few hours.
We have had the best time and met some of the most amazing people ever. Our thanks to all of them. XXX

Yep, all packed up, got the weight in the cases just about right! which was a miracle in itself.
i have kept a journal while we have been here, so i will type it up and you can read it when we return.
As Mandy says the service yesterday was lovely, an honour to assist Doug with communion along with Bob Chaney the most gentle man i have ever met. We had big photo sessions after the service.
Everyone over here is so nice, such wonderful warm loving people who welcome you into their homes and hearts. We have made some fantastic new friends. Long may our friendships and connections with Grays Chapel continue. Thank you everyone in Grays Chapel for you love. Love y'all.
